Ramping Up

This post marathon period has been weird. I've been moody and had strange aches in my legs and near my shoulder. I'd also been pretty fatigued by the end of the day. But I think I'm bouncing back. I ran about 10 miles in 1:21 on Sunday (up over the hill to the other end of Sweet Pond Rd. and back). Today I ran around 4 miles in Chester since it was a beautiful day. My legs have that familiar soreness now, which I've actually been missing! And the moodiness and aches are gone. Running is indeed therapeutic.

Post Marathon Recovery

I've read that you're supposed to rest one day for each mile of a marathon you've raced. Let's see...if my rusty math skills are correct, that works out to be 26.2 days. 26.2 days?!! I don't think so. I'd be a psychotic lump if I didn't run for 26.2 days. I did take the entire first week after the marathon off, which was fine because by legs were really stiff. Last week I ran twice on the treadmill (4 miles each time), then ran 4 or 5 miles on Sweet Pond Road on both Saturday and Sunday. And today, I ran between 3 and 4 miles in Chester since the sun was out and it was beautiful. My legs feel fine, though I'm not quite up to my pre-marathon aerobic fitness. But at least I'm running, albeit a little bit at a time. I hope to get about a 30 mile/week base by December, which would be good if I'm going run Vermont again in 2006. I haven't decided yet, but I'm leaning toward it.
